Wild Dog

Need to get this off my chest.

Five years ago, 老娘 was working in some organisation and received this appeal.

HA1 and HA2, who were born around the late 1980s to early 1990s, booked an SBF flat near Punggol MRT under the FS scheme (i.e. can almost collect keys so need adequate financing soon).

HA1 was working part-time at some kindergarten (has CPF contribution if I recall) and studying part-time at SIM doing early childhood education. HA2 was on the verge of completing his 6-month (wow) Psychology degree program from Edith Cowan University and did odd jobs on the side.

Naturally, their combined income (around $2k; being generous here) and CPF OA were not high enough to get sufficient loan and downpayment for a $400k-ish flat.

What to do? Cough up the balance in cash or forfeit the flat right?

Nah.

People decided to appeal.

Normally in such situations, it is an outright rejection case. However, when the case was escalated up (likely MP letter turned case report), some senior management dude told us to give them the “benefit of doubt”.

Hmmm.

Problem: how do you squeeze out a bigger loan for those who cannot make it? They have no additional income components for us to tap on.

Here’s where creativity enters.

We use future income for people who are SCHOLARS that are BONDED with an EXPECTED SALARY. Have never heard of a case where we have to grant people a higher loan amount on future income based on their imagination.

Never mind.

Decided to ask them for documents to substantiate said imagination such as employment letter, proof of graduation, etc.

Guess what?

They dilly-dallied. Took their own sweet time, went overseas...

Up till the time I left, 老娘 did not manage to obtain relevant documents that could help support their case. (Heard that they complained about the delay and wanted to check telephone voice recordings or what. Check lor, my conscience is clear. Not sure about yours though.)

Thereafter, the peeps who took over the case told me why the senior management dude instructed us to bless them with a truckload of salt.

Plot twist: It is rumoured that HA1’s mother recently bought a good class bungalow at 20 Fifth Avenue.

Go figure.

In the end, they still couldn’t make it (no surprises there) and had to pay the balance of a few hundred k in cash (most likely the “illustrious” mother’s money).

Orbigood.
